When the flint is wore off the tip it is worthless and needs to be replaced.    Lift the striker out of the cup and unthread the worn flint. Notice the new flint tip in the background of this picture.    Thread on the new tip with a full flint.    Place the flint tip back into the cup.  You will notice an easier and bigger spark.
