Students will measure several pieces of material to within a 1/16th of an inch
using a rule, a tape measure, a calipers and a micrometer.
Take a look at the DCG Middle School Measuring Module: DCG MS Seventh Grade Measuring Module
There are 31 measurements made with 8 different measuring tools:
- Tape Measure
- Steel Rule 1
- Square
- Micrometer
- Steel Rule 2
- Caliper
- Feeler Gauge
- Depth Gauge

The Tape Measure with 7 boards to measure to half (1/2), quarter (1/4, 3/4) and eighth (1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8).

Measuring one of the seven boards.

The measurement of 11 15/16 (sorry, it is the best picture I got).

Use the square to measure 4 boards and check 3 for squareness.

Measuring with the square.

Checking for a square corner. Notice this one is not square.

The micrometer will be used to make two measurements.
